How To Protect Your Clothes With A Cedar Closet Lining

To protect your clothes from bugs and such, nothing is better than a cedar closet lining. It is not so long ago that many people thought the extraordinary claims made for cedar, that it could help protect the contents of a closet from moths and other pests, were just tall tales. Now, scientific evidence has stepped in to prove that cedar does indeed possess some of these qualities, although to exactly what extent is not yet known. Tests are still ongoing, and further tests are still being encouraged.

It is a fact that cedar closet lining is beneficial in helping to take care of your clothes and home. That should be enough to encourage anyone thinking of redecorating their bedroom to seriously think about incorporating cedar into their plans. If you are not ready yet to redecorate, there are still some steps you can take to bring cedar into your room and enjoy its benefits. Wafer board panels can be used to create the effect of a cedar closet, without a lot of work and at a very reasonable price.

If wafer board have a negative it is that they look unnatural and do not please the eye. As a step up this very rudimentary solution, you can try plywood. Plywood is a sort of “middle of the road” solution. It is not as cheap as wafer board, but it will produce a considerably better looking finish if it is properly installed. It will confer many of the benefits of real cedar panels, but not all and certainly not to the same degree. It is a perfectly reasonable solution if you cannot afford the real thing.

Perhaps the best solution is to use solid wood planks. This will give you the greatest benefit from a cedar closet liner, but it will be the most expensive. Nevertheless, it will give you the satisfaction of a genuine cedar smell, and the aesthetic appearance of natural wood. Your clothes will gain the highest possible degree of protection that this quality material can offer. If you can afford it, it worth going with the most expensive solution.

Almost any bedroom decor will be enhanced with a cedar closet lining. Having said that, if for some reason you feel it doesn't fit, there will be a strong case for changing the rest of the room, and still keeping the cedar. Certainly, this will be the case if you have fine clothes made of natural materials, which are more susceptible to mothballs. When you add up the expense of replacing your entire wardrobe, with no guarantee that the problem won't recur, you can see the sense in sticking with a cedar closet lining.
